Do females really like it when they get flowers from guys?

for the past week ive been really missin ma ex... think about her n remember how happy i was being w/ her and we just started talkin again today and well i kinda want to send her flowers since i live n AZ and she lives in CA but im not sure because we have become more like friends/lovers... we talk more like friends over the phone but act more like lovers when im over there..... but yea keeping to my question should i get her those flowers to show her that i still love her..

Do females really like it when they get flowers from guys?
yes....being that far away, it will be a sign of your affection for her. girls love to get flowers - especially at work (if you can do that).
Reply:I%26#039;ve always loved getting flowers and I rarely get them. When I was with my ex husband we were together for 9.5 years and I think I got flowers twice.

Here%26#039;s my suggestion to you - don%26#039;t do roses. That%26#039;s not to say you shouldn%26#039;t have roses in an arrangement, but my personal opinion is to have a fresh arrangement with different types of flowers. Something like that pops and stands out. Roses are nice but very over done. Make sure they put some Gerber Daisies in there. They%26#039;re pretty and last for a long time. :-)
Reply:yes they do.even if you are not serious with them it is a very nice gesture.you can brighten up someones day.there is this thing called edible arrangement.it is like a flower arrangement but made with fruit.she is very lucky to have someone that cares for her even though you are not an item.
Reply:HECK YEAH! SHE WILL THINK UR A REAL MAN CUZ REAL MEN AINT AFRAID TO SHOW THEIR LOVE.

Can anyone please explain to me the meaning of the poem "to the flowers of heidelberg"?

To The Flowers Of Heidelberg

Go to my country, go, foreign flowers,

Planted by the traveler on his way,

And there beneath that sky of blue

That over my beloved towers,

Speak for this traveler to say

What faith in his homeland he breathes to you.

Go and say. . . say that when the dawn

First drew your calyx open there

Beside the River Neckar chill,

You saw him standing by you, very still,

Reflecting on the primrose flush you wear.

Say that when the morning light

Her toll of perfume from you wrung,

While playfully she whispered, %26quot;How I love you!%26quot;

He too murmured here above you

Tender love songs in his native tongue.

That when the rising sun the height

Of Kainigsthul in early morn first spies,

And with its tepid light

Is pouring life in valley, wood, and grove,

He greets the sun as it begins to rise,

Which in his native land is blazing straight above.

And tell them of that day he staid

And plucked you from the border of the path,

Amid the ruins of the feudal castle,

By the River Neckar, and in the silvan shade.

Tell them what he told you

As tenderly he took

Your pliant leaves and pressed them in a book,

Where now its well worn pages close enfold you.

Carry, carry, flowers of Rhine,

Love to every love of mine,

Peace to my country and her fertile loam,

Virtue to her women, courage to her men,

Salute those darling ones again,

Who formed the sacred circle of our home.

And when you reach that shore,

Each kiss I press upon you now,

Deposit on the pinions of the wind,

And those I love and honor and adore

Will feel my kisses carried to their brow.

Ah, flowers, you may fare through,

Conserving still, perhaps, your native hue;

Yet, far from Fatherland, heroic loam

To which you owe your life,

The perfume will be gone from you;

For aroma is your soul; it cannot roam

Beyond the skies which saw it born, nor e%26#039;er forget

Can anyone please explain to me the meaning of the poem %26quot;to the flowers of heidelberg%26quot;?
Dr. José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso (1861-1896), martyr and national hero of the Philippines, doctor and gifted poet, spent an important period of his life in and around Heidelberg. He lived here from February 18 to June 1886.

This poem denotes both his love of Heidelberg (and especially the flora), and his intense love and home-sickness for his own country. When he wrote home he sent these flower pressings inside the letters - and his poem relates that with each pressing he kissed it and sent his love with it. He says, however, that the freshness and perfume of the flower will be lost because it has been plucked from its true home ... as has he. And this is how he feels - he needs to be in his own country to be fully alive.

What kind of shade plants/flowers would like nice in front of a brick house?

I am trying to plan what flowers or plants to plant in front of our house. The front of the house is in the shade because of two large pine trees that are in front of our house. The previous owner had a lot of hostas which I pulled out because they were overgrown and blocked the sidewalk so people couldn%26#039;t even walk on it. Are there any plants which would do well in the shade and look nice with a red brick house?

What kind of shade plants/flowers would like nice in front of a brick house?
hmm i cant tell u what kind of plant or flower, but make them bright =]

pink,blue,yellow...those colors will make the outside of your house look nice =]
Reply:I would do a mix of hostas %26amp; coral bells. Put the larger hostas in the back of the bed towards the house and the coral bells in front. Coral bells now come in lots of interesting colors so you can get color with out flowers.
Reply:found some info for you on HGTV.com website hope this helps :o)

Impatiens, begonias, caladiums, azaleas, rhododendrons, coleus and the many varieties of hostas have usually been asked to carry most of the load in colorizing shade gardens.

http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/gl_plants_sun_s...
Reply:Hostas. No kidding. Maybe get some new ones. They have many different colors of foliage and blooms. Ferns are great in the shade. Impatiens. Bleeding Heart is beautiful in the spring but will look bedraggled in the summertime.
Reply:Lots of great plant suggestions here already.

Try bluestone perennials to search for plants based on your particular zone, and you can limit your search based on shade and soil type (dry, moist, etc) www.bluestoneperennials.com

Their plants are exceptional and they have EXCELLENT customer service if you do have a problem.

Also, Better Homes and Gardens has some great pre-planned gardens on their website: http://www.bhg.com/bhg/category.jsp?cate...

I have used 2 or 3 of their plans (and ordered the plants from Bluestone!!)
Reply:i buy plants i like
Reply:Seems like everyone is thinking perennial and that is great. You may want to replant the hostas in other areas of the yard.

Along the sidewalk try impatients. White impatients in summer make such a beautiful display and lining a sidewalk they will direct the visitor to your door. You could have a large pot of them on one side or both sides of the front door to complete the look. And they will droop when they are thirsty, so no chance of dying for lack of water.

I like the look of one solid color (white alludes to cooler temps), but you can also plant a kaleidoscope of different colors.

Hope this helps. :)
Reply:bleeding harts are real good
Reply:You could have a foundation planting with a background of evergreens...Japanese plum yew and cherry laurel %26#039;Otto lukyens%26#039; at 2 1/2 - 3%26#039; HT. ..they work well in the shade and are easy to maintain.

Working towards the front of your garden, plan this area for a mixture of perennials--

-- for Spring, use white Astilbe, deep purple or blue Siberian Iris, some Tiarella %26#039;Oakleaf%26#039; and Helleboros %26#039;Brandywine%26#039; -- planted in groups of 3.

-- Intersperse some summer blooming perennials- there are many varieties of lillies (Hemerocallis)--Joan senior, Suzie Wong, happy returns and lullaby baby would look great against your brick foundation.

Next, if you still have open areas, plant some of the annuals that were posted-impatiens/begonias.

Finish with a border of Liriope, a green grass-type perennial with either white or purple flowers.

Plant pansies in the Fall to extend your blooming season.

a few others to consider:

mertensia-Virginia blue bell

Lilly of the valley

euphorbia-martin%26#039;s spurge
Reply:Where are you located?

Hostas are a staple of a shade garden, and if you%26#039;re not familiar with them you may want to take a look at some of the other varieties that are available that won%26#039;t overgrow the path.

Some other thoughts - ferns, liriope, columbine.

Reply:First save the hostas....great accent plants for the front and line the walk but split them and move them back so they have room to grow. Sounds like you have total shade with the pine trees...if so you will be very limited. Evergreens such as yews, euyounmous and some hollies will work, incorporate some hydrangas, rhododendrens and azaleas for color and bloom.

GOOD LUCK

Anyone know of good colorful flowers to grow in Buffalo NY?

I recently moved to the Buffalo NY area and I am really not familiar with the type of climate and plants that do well here. If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it! I have tried just going to a local homestore, but it seems like they just try to sell you the most expensive plants and flowers. Thanks for your time!

Anyone know of good colorful flowers to grow in Buffalo NY?
Sure!

I believe you%26#039;re in the same Ag Zone as me (Zone 5) so I%26#039;ll list some of my favorites. I%26#039;m assuming you are referring to perennials.

Garden phlox, monarda (bee balm), Shasta daisy (leucanthemum), bellamcanda (blackberry lily), bearded iris, scabiosa (pincushion flower), gaillardia (blanket flower), oenethra (evening primrose), daylily and Asiatic lily are all long-lived perennials that thrive in sun to part shade, and are EASY to grow! Most are available in various colors, too.

If you have shady areas, some good ones are the old standby hosta, as well as Japanese toadlily, astilbe, pulmonaria (lungwort), columbine, dicentra (bleeding heart), and various types of ferns.

Hon please purchase your plants at a reputable local nursery rather than Home Depot or WalMart. Nursery employees are far more likely to be able to make recommendations, and you%26#039;ll also be getting a better plant.

Any questions, just email me, I%26#039;ll be happy to help.
Reply:colorful plants for NY can include the following:

herbaceous plants- Petunia, pansy, impatience, geranium sp., geranium (pelargonium), sunflower, bee-balm/ monarda, delphinium, clemitis (a vine)

bulbs- tulips, iris

shrubs- rose, azalea, rhododendron

trees- eastern red-bud/ cercis canadensis, trees with fall color- maples/deciduous trees
Reply:You might try Springhill Nurseries on-line ... they have one cent sales and you can get some pretty good deals:

http://springhillnursery.com/search.asp?...

I%26#039;m in Zone 5 also (same as Buffalo) and love daylilies, hosta, iris, and most perennials. You can see some of the ones in my garden at: http://www.gardening-quick-n-easy.com/ea...

Should I buy this girl flowers? Be real.?

I get the %26quot;don%26#039;t be a chump %26amp; spend money on/do this %26amp; that 4 women too early on%26quot; game. Plenty of past mistakes here.....I%26#039;m talkin to this girl right now. Known her 4 maybe a year, but only recently began hanging out. She seems cool %26amp; is smart %26amp; fun. I make her laugh. Said she likes that about me, %26amp; me bein forward. Went out on what I consider to be our 2nd date since I paid 4 the lunch b4. Things went real well. We dined, danced, spoke, she laughed, constantly touched me, touched her hair, bit her lip, etc. But towards the end of the night she began to stray mentally a bit. It was late %26amp; it had been a long week 4 her. When I walked her to her door she gave me a quick hug, leaving no time for a kiss, sayin she%26#039;d talk to me later. Seemed sincere. Couple days later I called, she hasn%26#039;t called back. Confused. Am I over-thinkin this? Also, she%26#039;s hinted to luvin flowers several times. Too soon? Oh, she kind of talks down on herself also but is an over-achiever. ??? Don%26#039;t wanna F it up.

Is it wrong to send flowers now?

I asked about giving up my fiance or fighting for her. Well, since it ended on a really weird note (Too many questions left unanswered and if im going to leave, i need to take one last shot!) Do you think flowers sent to her workplace would be okay?? And if so, what kind? Her favorites? Red roses?

Is it wrong to send flowers now?

So who all didnt get flowers or candy or a card for vday ?Tell me about yours im bored?
I think that if he keeps hurting you, you should break up with him. Count how many times you were happy with him and how many times he made you unhappy. If the latter is the most that%26#039;s a sure sign you need to ditch him.
Reply:He doesnt care about you, break up with him already.

As far as me, I didn%26#039;t even get a text. So much for him.
Reply:Dearest Beautiful

I think he should date my soon to be X girlfriend. He%26#039;s about as cold as she is and should be given his walking papers as soon as you finish reading this. At 12:01 Am this morning i am calling her and i have a text and e mail waiting to be sent to tel her its over. How can people be so mean and not care about our feelings.

Good Luck

Reply:You should have told him you want something small.. a card would be nice... guys hate when you tell them to pick! Lets face it ladies they have no idea on where to start!!

As for him getting angry about you wanting him to be sober that sounds like a problem.. If he drinks that much for you to have to ask him to take a day off maybe he needs help...

I think you should stop worrying about him not wanting to get hurt and think of yourself on this one.. Follow your head and not your heart!
Reply:if he won%26#039;t dump you, then dump him. You can find some one who will appreiciate you for who you are %26quot;real you%26quot;.

Wedding arch= metal and fake flowers?

We are making an arch for my cousins wedding and its from Hobby Lobby, straight metal pipe with a slick white finish. We are trying to attach fake flowers to it, but hot gluing wont work b/c the glue comes right off. Wire wont work b/c it slides, and double stick tape doesnt work well either, loses its stickiness and can see it too easily. ANY suggestions on how to make them stick? Drilling is out too.

Wedding arch= metal and fake flowers?
call a florist. they can help with ideas.
Reply:Did you try Super glue?

Be careful not to glue your fingers together.
Reply:I had some ideas, but like %26quot;greeneyed ____%26#039;s %26quot; answers - esp. with the tulle. Then you can do anything.
Reply:Wiring should work. What are you using, florist%26#039;s wire or chennile stems?

Chances are you%26#039;re going to have to add something else to the arch. Either tulle or greenery and then attach the flowers to that.

Rather than use single flowers have you considered using garlands with flowers %26amp; greenery?
Reply:You need some form of compound or cement type glue.

Of course I cant remember the name of it, but I used this stuff I got from a craft store to glue pieces of aluminum foil together.

The problem might be that the flowers dont have a large enough surface to glue. See of you can arrange them on small bits of foam or wrap them around a white wire.

With the wire, try melting it to the pole, or getting some of that metal compound.

I think that might help.
Reply:You are going to have to sand the finish to make a surface for glue to adhere to. I would suggest using Gorilla glue. Why not leave flowers on the stem and wrap it around the metal frame? Find a strand of flowers or greenry to wrap around it. Tie the flowers on with white or ivory tulle.

Good luck!
Reply:Good luck!
Reply:You%26#039;ll have to use a very, very thin wire to wrap around the flowers. You can find it where silk flowers and plant accessories are sold.

Good Luck!
Reply:You should use garlands and not individual bouquets/flowers. They are a lot easier to attach. You can use floral tape.

Also consider attaching flowers to a string of lights (with floral tape) and then wrapping the whole thing around the arch.
Reply:We used a lighted arch it came with handy little clips to clip the lights on with. We used the extras for the flowers. Maybe you can buy just the clips from Hobby Lobby? I%26#039;d ask them.
Reply:try tien them up with ribon or get like those tie things that tie trash bags and bread and try then. if u could make holes in the pipe it would be easyer.
Reply:Go back to the store or call them for suggestions.

Try sanding the metal where you need to attach the flowers. It will give you a rough surface that will hold glue or wire better. Maybe get the floral garland if you can to wrap around it from one end to the other to help hide the rough spots and you would have to attach it in less spots.

If this is a last minute thing, and you can%26#039;t run to the store for extra help, then I%26#039;m not sure what to tell you. Keep trying a combinaion of the glue and wire to see if that makes any difference.

How come know one brings flowers?

Recently I spent a stretch in a psyche ward, good food, good people etc. The thing that I found very obvious was the lack of flowers get well cards etc.

No one ever says, %26quot;get well%26quot; soon.

I just wonder if anyone knows whats up with that.

How come know one brings flowers?
Many wards have prohibited flowers. People are still sometimes uncomfortable with openly aknowleging a psych condition. They may feel that it is more polite to ignore it.
Reply:Well, I don%26#039;t bring you flowers cuz you don%26#039;t sing me love songs... anymoooooorrre. (Get well... ha! Good luck on that deal : )
Reply:Perhaps this is because they know they never will be,%26quot;right in the head%26quot;, so how could they very well send a card saying,%26quot;get well soon%26quot;? How cruel and taunting that would be! haha, get well soon! when you know fully well they will be a raving lunatic the rest of their lives! By the way, i would suggest a card (which i make and sell for $3.42 cents each), which say, %26quot;Sorry your crazy%26quot;! or %26quot;We miss you, get outta the loony bin A.S.A.P.%26quot;

As for the flowers, well, Moira from floor 3, Rm. 420 trys to either eat/smoke them. So EVERYONE gets punished.
Reply:I guess it would depend on the person, or persons, and what they consider appropriate.
Reply:I think that people feel kind of funny about what they should say or whether they should even acknowlege that they know you were in a psych unit. They aren%26#039;t sure if you are embarrassed about it, or would be if you knew that they knew where you were. Or they may (ignorantly, due to old stereotypes in the media) envision the experience as something so horrible they don%26#039;t want to bring it up and %26quot;be just rubbing it in), as to where you are. I know that none of this makes sense, but people who aren%26#039;t informed just don%26#039;t understand modern day psychiatry, hospitals, and that any mental illness is just a disease or illness like any other. There is, sadly, still some stigma attatched, because people are just unaware. Feel like taking on educating them? :-) Oh, hey--do please get well soon! I hope your visit was helpful to you and you%26#039;re feeling better. If I thought I could access my smiley face icons, I would stick in flowers for you here!

Too early to send her flowers?

Hi everyone,i work with this girl for 2 years and i like her so much last week i took her to the restaurant and i told her that i really like her and i want to be with her she didn%26#039;t give me an answer she just said she%26#039;ll think about it well,I%26#039;d like to know if i can send her some flowers.

thanks for your help

Too early to send her flowers?
I think it%26#039;d be a little too soon. You%26#039;ve asked her and she hasn%26#039;t answered. Don%26#039;t seem clingy. Just wait for her response. If she says yes, send flowers that say, %26quot;Your answer made me so happy.%26quot; Or something...

If not, then at least you know your flowers didnt scare her away.
Reply:Too early ??? lol, you%26#039;ve waited 2 years already !!! Send them ! Yesterday ! It could help her decide if she wants to see you again ! If you don%26#039;t, another guy will ! What are you waiting for ???
Reply:sure send her flowers what was your plan just sit back and let her make her mind up !!!! dont give her room!!dont give her time to make her mind up !!!let her know what a fun luvin generous guy you are. if you give her room she will think you aint that fussed keep at it just dont be wierd with it .

persistance my friend .
Reply:ya sure.nuffin wrong witht that
Reply:wait it out dont scare her off with too fast of movements

chill out and give her a bit of space

dont come off real strong, its a turn off
Reply:If you told her you like her and she said she%26#039;ll think about it, she%26#039;s trying to let you down easy hon.

Back wayyyyy off and just be a friend. If she wants to be with you she knows where to find you.

Your best bet is to send her a quick email that says %26quot;Thanks again for dinner the other night, I really enjoyed it. Talk to you soon, Name%26quot;

If you send flowers you%26#039;re making yourself look cloying, clingy and somewhat desperate, especially since she didn%26#039;t tell you she likes you. Hang back and act indifferent. If she does nothing, then move on and just be friends.
Reply:Honey it is never to early to send a girl flowers! Go for it! It will totally melt her heart! Good luck!
Reply:well the first thing to ask yo sell is if u think she like her bac and if u like her that much yea give her the flowers
Reply:You never know, all girls are different.

Maybe you should just wait until she answers you.

If she says yes, then maybe you should send her flowers, but not now.
Reply:i think you should wait like .. 3 days. then bring it up, but like its not a big deal. you might get your heart broken,, you might not. don%26#039;t send flowers. its pushy.
Reply:That sucks that she didn%26#039;t answer you. Maybe she was kind of shocked that you would reveal so much on your first outing. I guess if you truly want to then yes send her flowers. I mean what girl doesn%26#039;t want flowers? Then write her a poem or a little note with it like you%26#039;re thinking of her and couldn%26#039;t help but get her some flowers, but eh I%26#039;m not good at this kind of stuff, so yeah. Good luck though. Hope I helped.

What keeps deer and rabbits from eating my flowers and bushes?

I am having a problem with deer and rabbits eating my flowers, my bushes, my magnolia tree buds, even my baby pine trees! My mom said she tried a commercial product that was somewhat expensive and didn%26#039;t work very well. I am trying to come up with an idea of something natural (and maybe less expensive) I can spray on the plants that would not hurt the plants. I thought of trying either cayenne pepper mixed with water or hot sauce mixed with water. But I%26#039;m not sure if it will harm the plants. Does anybody know? And are there any other ideas out there? I%26#039;m tired of putting in all the work and then having my plants eaten. Oh, fencing is not an option because the flowers are on a walkway where fencing wouldn%26#039;t work and the magnolia is too tall for fencing. Thank you!

What keeps deer and rabbits from eating my flowers and bushes?
I use Hinder that is some kind of urea and it really works. It washes off the trees in the rain and you have to put more on.

I used some kind of pepper spray. I don%26#039;t think if you make a pepper spray it would hurt anything. Sounds expensive to me. I think you would need to use a lot of it.

Hinder also will make the plants grow because the urea is nitrogen. When I spray it the trees grow greener and faster.
Reply:I have heard that you can get hair from your beauty shop and put that around your flowers and such and that will help.
Reply:Soak rags in creosote and tie them to stakes around the plants; the smell is so strong that the deer, etc. can%26#039;t smell if any predators are around and so will not risk feeding.

I have also heard, (but not tried), that lion poo will scare them away. You can buy it from zoos and some garden centers.

Chilli also works, but needs frequent applications.
Reply:Do mix hot sauce or cayenne pepper with water. it will not hurt the plants and it will definitely stop the animals from eating your plants. I have never ued this method, but several people I know have recommended it to me.

Plant some marigolds near the plants that are being eaten. You can buy marigolds that get very tall and marigolds that stay small and close to the ground. They have an odor that is barely notiecable to humans but drives animals crazy, they really hate it. I use them around my vegetable garden and they really work. Not to mention, they%26#039;re pretty.
Reply:My wife had a rabbit problem in our garden. She%26#039;s really into %26quot;all-natural%26quot; and safe products, so she found a website that sells a rabbit repellent like that. It worked really well, and she uses it all the time now. You can go to http://www.naturalrabbitrepel.com

Good luck!

You can make your own at home mixes that work, but you need to be careful how much you mix. If the oil concentration is too high you have a small chance of harming delicate plants.

Thinking about sending my teacher flowers... ?

Ok, I’ve been thinking about giving one of my college professors a bouquet of flowers. I found this really nice poem by one of her favorite authors that would fit nicely on the card as well. I’m very attracted to her and I know it could never really work considering she’s a teacher and I’m her student, however, I still feel inclined to do something nice. I guess just to make her feel good and perhaps to see her reaction.

I don’t really have any intention of letting her know it was me, and so I was going to sign it either as ‘anonymous’ or ‘secret admirer.’ But I was thinking it might be torture for her if she never found out, and I was wondering if signing my initials would be better. Then I was thinking that if she somehow thought it was me and wanted to talk privately about it, then I would probably go ahead and confess to her, but I worry that the gesture may come off as being creepy or like I’m sucking up to her, which is not my intention at all.

Thinking about sending my teacher flowers... ?
If there is no rule against sending flowers, then sure, why not.

Tell her that you appreciate how many hours of preparation and teaching that she has spent this semester.....etc.... and sign your name. No shame in that at all.

btw -- sounds like you might like her more than you say. ;)

4th wedding anniversary? fruit and flowers?
hi, what about a cherry blossom tree or pear tree, both bllom at this time of year. If they don%26#039;t have a garden then something made from rosewood .

I love the fruit arrangement idea too.

Reply:A romantic style picnic basket with gourmet stuff, a chilled bottle of wine, and some fresh fruit you yourself have hand-picked would be just fine.
Reply:How about an edible arrangement? These are generally fruits cut into flower shapes and then arranged like classic centerpieces. They%26#039;re as pretty as flowers, but you get to eat them instead of watching them die!
Reply:Just get them a card, and _maybe_ a bottle of wine or some flowers. Unless it%26#039;s a big one like 25 or 50 years, anniversary gifts from friends are not necessary.
Reply:Why not make an arrangement with a few pieces of fruit, bottle of wine, cork screw and two wine glasses and then fill the basket in with flowers? This will give them something to enjoy that night or the night after.
Reply:You could get them a fruit bowl that you have made an arrangement of fruit in and you could put a bag of flour in there as a bit of a joke. Also there are things like http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Contemporary...

this on amazon that are quite uniquie

Is it normal to take flowers to a funeral?

have never had to go to one before fortunatly. a friend said today about flowers tho, i would rather give money to the hospice he was in, am doing a fundraising event for it as well, but dont want to go with none if thats the normal thing to do? help!

Is it normal to take flowers to a funeral?
First of all, I%26#039;m sorry about your friend, and I think it%26#039;s great to do some fundraising. I think the correct procedure is to send flowers through a florist with a card - the only time I have taken flowers to a funeral myself is when a family member has died. Then I have picked some from my garden and taken them along and put them on the coffin. I remember my mother-in-law saying that she wanted no flowers at all, but people sent them anyway, and I suppose the sight of a coffin arriving at a cemetery or crematorium with no flowers on it at all would be odd and sad, but that might just be tradition, or a personal view. Usually funeral flowers go to an old people%26#039;s home afterwards, where they do give great pleasure. I remember when my mother died I went to %26#039;view%26#039; her at the funeral directors the day before her burial, and I put a few, very special flowers inside her coffin. (Freesias, mainly, so I can never see them without remembering those minutes).

What a long answer! Hope it helps.
Reply:You normally select an arrangement (it doesn%26#039;t have to be a wreath!) at your local florist. Tell them what you want to be written on the little card that goes with the flowers. They then usually send them on to the funeral themselves. They can also advise you on an appropriate arrangement. I would probably send flowers as well as fund raise. Unless the person who is deceased SPECIFICALLY SAID they wanted people to give money to the hospice or some other good cause instead of buying flowers. For eg, my late grandad said to make a donation to %26quot;Water Aid%26quot; (a charity) instead. Hope this helps :)
Reply:you should send flowers or a plant
Reply:Yes it%26#039;s %26quot;normal%26quot;. All civilizations placed flowers on the body and on the grave-site. Same reason we give flowers to each other when alive. A reverence for beauty of life, fragile it blooms and it is then gone, so it is in respect, a token of love and gratitude for the beauty and joy enjoyed by us in having known the person in life.
Reply:Flowers should be ordered at a florists and sent to the funeral director (Undertaker). It would not be normal to take flowers with you. It seems to me, it would be much more appropriate to donate any money to the hospice..
Reply:Nicki in this situation I would take one flower and place it with the other flowers after the service and then I would make my contribution to the hospice quietly without fuss.

This is a show of your respect and you%26#039;re being helpful to the hospice at the same time.

I think single flowers out of plastic are much better and you can even find out what the persons fave flower was. That would be just LOVELY X
Reply:One doesn%26#039;t physically take flowers to a funeral, they order them from a florist %26amp; the florist takes them to the funeral home. Many people send planters, instead of flowers, %26amp; many send gifts of money inside a sympathy card. There will be envelopes at the funeral home in the vestibule, to fill out for Hospice, or the choice of the family or the deceased.
Reply:Normally you do not take flowers or a wreath to the funeral. You usually have them so that the funeral director can display them before the mourners arrive.

Personally, I think flowers are waste of money and that a contribution to the person%26#039;s charity would be more appropriate and useful. But it is a cultural and traditional thing to do.
Reply:YES flowers are normal

but raising money is good to ask family of the deceased what they prefer, or what the person who died would have wanted
Reply:Where i live, most people call ahead and have flowers delivered to the place where they are having the funeral. But money to the hospice would be a great idea i think!
Reply:Definately give the money to hospice in the decedent%26#039;s name, and send a card explaining that you did that. The family would probably appreciate the gesture, and will have enough flowers from other loved ones!
Reply:No, you don%26#039;t usually bring flowers to a funeral, since it isn%26#039;t held at someone%26#039;s home - they don%26#039;t have a vase or anything to put the flowers in. Sometimes people will send flowers directly to the church or funeral, usually a very large wreath or spray of flowers, but this is pretty expensive and is rarely from an individual.

Mail a condolence card to the person%26#039;s home, and make a contribution to the hospice.
Reply:If you were close to the family or the deceased, you can call a florist and have an arrangement sent to the funeral home. Don%26#039;t bring them yourself, that%26#039;s weird... for lack of a better word.

Donating to the hospice is a great idea! Many of them are underfunded and do such great work.
Reply:Normally people send wreaths via the flower shop, ie you order from the flower shop and they send it to the address. Some people ask that wreaths not be sent and donations to be made to a certain charity. In such a case, you can choose to or not to make the donation.
Reply:You should not turn up to the funeral with the flowers. If you want to send flowers you do it through a florist. Otherwise, perhaps in your card you could put a note in that you made a donation to the Hospice
Reply:Sorry about your friend. It is not necessery to take or send flowers. What you are doing is great. The family will appreciate what you are doing. Good luck with the fundraising.
Reply:I am sure the guest of honour , the desist would like to think of you helping those that need care. so a donation to a hospice would be perfect answer. you might also think about a buying a tree if you would like
Reply:its totally up to you if you want to send flowers or not... its generally only family that take flowers to a funeral but if you do then you can lay them after the service...

from experience tho, someone making a donation to the hospice a relative of mine was in was more appreciated than flowers, after all hospices always need donations to help them keep up the good work they do,

sorry to hear about your loss, hope this helped with your decision
Reply:help the hospice
Reply:Yeah! It%26#039;s perfectly fine. It just like a little gift. It looks kind.
Reply:You don%26#039;t take them with you, usually--you have them sent to the funeral home/church where the funeral is or take them by before the funeral.

Usually, if somebody says they want you to donate to _______ in lieu of flowers, then donate, but my family and I still wind up bringing flowers almost every time (it%26#039;s like, $50 for a pretty nice arrangement...see if you can go in on it with another friend or family member.)

You can have the hospice send a card to the survivors of the person who just died that says a donation was made by you in memory of that person. That would be nice...but I love flowers and I feel like it adds to the atmosphere to have as many as possible.

But, hey, if you feel like it would go further some other way, do that. It%26#039;s hard to feel comfortable about...much of anything. It%26#039;s a funeral...even when you%26#039;ve been to a ton of them like I have, it still makes you feel all weird and sad and uncomfortable and I feel like flowers are a way to, sorta, bridge the gap. Say what I might not be able to say.

But you%26#039;re not gonna walk in holding them, anyway. So it%26#039;s OK if you don%26#039;t get them and spend your money elsewhere on another worthy cause.

Do what feels right. Forget about %26quot;normal%26quot;--it doesn%26#039;t really apply here.
Reply:A lot of families ask for donations instead of flowers. The arrangements are normally done through the funeral directors, and flowers are send via florists.

Your friend%26#039;s family will be overwhelmed at your fundraising event, and will not mind at all if you make a donation instead of flowers.
Reply:You should ask the family of the deceased is a normally a decision made by the deceased before theor passing or the family in organising the funeral. There are no set rules for this.
Reply:Take a card saying inside you donated money to the hospice in memory of....

Flowers don%26#039;t have to be taken.
Reply:Generally the family will make a statement (either in the obituary, if you live in an area where they are common, or in a program for visitation, if not), whether or not they are requesting memorial donations or not. Memorial donations such as to Hospice are still perfectly acceptable as an alternative to flowers, however.

I grew up in the south, and for some reason, I just can%26#039;t stand to see a funeral pass %26quot;without flowers.%26quot; I recently attended a funeral where the family requested memorial donations to a certain organization; however, I attended the visitation early and saw that there were no flowers whatsoever, so I decided to send the family flowers instead. I saw the next day they%26#039;d only received four arrangements or so, even though it was a medium-sized funeral, so I felt that I%26#039;d made the right call.

I try to send a live plant rather than cut flowers, that way the family has a living tribute to their lost family member after the funeral.

Not really an answer to your question, but the oddest thing I%26#039;ve heard of in an obituary was that memorial donations be made to %26quot;hookers, midgets and firetrucks.%26quot; This was requested in an obituary that was submitted to a small-town newspaper I worked for.

But just follow your heart...you%26#039;ll know the right thing to do. That%26#039;s what I always do in these situations.

Sorry for your loss.
Reply:you don%26#039;t bring them. You get the florist to send the arrangement.
Reply:actually you should have the flowers sent to the funeral home prior to the funeral. though if you are doing all as you say you are a simple card to the family offering condolences along with the donation would suffice.

DO NOT arrive at the funeral home with flowers or a wreath in your hand. it is tacky this is a funeral not a wedding.
Reply:sure. dead people love flowers
Reply:normally take flowers

if the family dont want flowers it normally says on the funeral invite no flowers
Reply:No, every funeral I%26#039;ve been already had flowers. They were probably provided by the funeral home.
Reply:u dont take flowers! u take a wreath!

How do you kill moss in a flower garden without killing the flowers?

I have tried wood ash and lime. I do not want to kill the flowers, but the moss is getting thicker. I have torn it out, but it is spreading into my lawn as well as the the garden.

How do you kill moss in a flower garden without killing the flowers?
try a product called, %26quot;moss out%26quot; , it comes in liquid, or granules,.....i think, but not sure that it has a high copper content,.....used it on my lawn, it killed the moss, but not the grass
Reply:Pull it out -- that is the best way you can go without killing your other plants. And continue applying lime to condition the soil and minimize the moss growth.
Reply:contact ortho or roundup or spectracide

HUGE passionfruit vine.. no flowers (Australia)?

I have a well growing, very foliage driven passionfruit vine that must mesure around 5-6 meters long and 2-3 meters high. Its growing on a trellis and its the only plant nearby.

Yet I have no flowers showing up, and haven%26#039;t seen any in the 18 months its been established...

Any ideas how to trigger them..I want some fruit, to sit under the vine and eat all day ( i have no appendix... beofre you say it ! )

HUGE passionfruit vine.. no flowers (Australia)?
Passion-fruit usually takes about two or three years to set fruit. You may get an occasional fruit now, but next year you should have an abundance.

Be sure not to spray for flying insects as you do not want to kill the pollinators! :)

Do you fertilize and water it?

It sounds like it is getting to much nitrogen.

How is the pH?

Hope this helps!

Is there such thing as too many flowers for a girl?

Well now I%26#039;m in an LDR and it seems all I can do is send flowers to my GF. I sent some 1.5 months ago and now I want to send some more for International Women%26#039;s Day. But I don%26#039;t want her to think %26quot;ohh flowers again... someone doesn%26#039;t have an imagination%26quot;.. we are not too big on teddy bears and she%26#039;s not too in to chocalate... I can%26#039;t send her stuff by mail either...

What do you think ladies?

Is there such thing as too many flowers for a girl?
I think flowers mean so much. There are so many different kinds so therefore you can never get sick of them. I love receiving flowers, I think they are really sweet. I know different color roses means different things, like red roses mean love and pink roses mean like and different things like that. If you think she may get sick of receiving flowers, send her a little card with it, explaining what the flowers mean and stand for. Also send her a little card that tells her how much she is loved. Good luck!
Reply:Flowers are so over done. Sometimes I owuld just like to go to a park or something and have a picnic and walk around barefoot. It%26#039;s simple but really nice to do something not in a text book you know.
Reply:NOOOOOOOOOOO

you could try ordering online something else u know she likes too (ie/ her fave food, some cosy slippers, sexy lingerie - if its appropriate, a pamper pack, etc), but flowers never get old :)

p.s. she%26#039;s a lucky girl
Reply:No such thing as too many flowers for a girl. Only exception is if you just met her, which doesn%26#039;t seem to be your situation. Sending flowers for Int%26#039;l Women%26#039;s Day...you%26#039;re a sensitive sweetie, aren%26#039;t you? Lucky girl!
Reply:NOOOO...NEVER TOO MANY
Reply:no theres never to many flowers for girls. when girls get flowers they kno that you care for them and what to see them again but you can%26#039;t because your so far away
Reply:i think flowers are always a nice gift
Reply:flowers die, try jewelry
Reply:i loveee flowers, but then again some weird girls dont so theres a possibility.

When the girl sends flowers to the guy?

This happened to me, I received flowers from a girlfriend. I just wanted to know is this something new these days? It kind of made me feel like well like the girl! Wonder what anyone thinks of this one. She said she did it just because she was thinking of me. Romantic or creepy?

When the girl sends flowers to the guy?
Hi kings, well I have heard of this - but only in movies...and then it made me wonder. In one episode of %26#039;FRASIER%26#039; a girl sent flowers to Frasier and he began thinking that she was acting like the male in the relationship, and he was right - she was!

In real life I have never known a girl who has sent flowers to a guy.

I guess there is nothing wrong with it, but personally, I dont like it. And if I was a guy I would feel very embarrassed and awkward if it happened to me.

I am sure that you wont be boasting about this to your friends, so I think you feel embarrassed by it.

So, ssshhhhhhhhhhhh...dont tell your friends over a pint tonight!!

Have a nice day :)
Reply:Romantic because she%26#039;s not afraid to make the first move in a relationship whereas others are afraid and sit waiting for a phone call or doorbell to ring.Just know you have a confident girl which is definitely a good thing and don%26#039;t take for granted.
Reply:it kinda creepy. its always been the guy thing, but things change.. i would feel kinda guy ab the whole thing.. tell her your not cool with that and maybe buy you something more manly... maybe it was a joke
Reply:very romantic
Reply:That%26#039;s sweet of her. Thank her, and don%26#039;t question a nice gesture like that.
Reply:Romantic. You should be flattered.
Reply:Definitely romantic. Shows she%26#039;s not afraid to make a move on you.
Reply:we are definitely living in a new age. How else would she tell you she%26#039;s thinking of you?? I think it was very nice of her!!
Reply:Romantic. I wouldn%26#039;t like the flowers, but I would like the gesture.

I would rather she just write me a letter or send me something useful =). I%26#039;m a simple practical guy
Reply:romantic =)))))
Reply:romantic.. the girl really cares about you and she since you wouldn%26#039;t take the step to give her flowers, she%26#039;s ben waiting too long and has taken the step to give u flowers. gernerous isn;t she? u must be grateful that u have such a gf! =)
Reply:That was sweet =)

Who cares what everyone else thinks!
Reply:This is romantic. Just because she is doing an act of the guy means she really likes you it should not be creepy if you feel the same way.

-Shamis
Reply:totally cool....yer lucky!!! the girl must really appreciate you .....

maybe for something you did...yeaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!
Reply:kinda different

but romantic thats nice of her :)
Reply:Romantic. If you think it%26#039;s creepy, you%26#039;re shallow. Maybe it%26#039;s a sign fr you to give something back. It%26#039;s totally fine. It means she cares about you!
Reply:The gesture is romantic, but it is not traditional. I know how happy I feel when I receive flowers, so I sent my husband flowers once while we were dating. It was his b-day, I went to the florist and told them that I didn%26#039;t want girly- like roses ( pink, red) since this was for a guy. They tried to butch it up as much as they could... there was this autumn-y colored rose, like a burnt orange. It was unique and not real feminine. They used all greenery in the fill, no baby%26#039;s breath or anything frilly. Sent it to my husband%26#039;s office. I know he appreciated the gesture, but I didn%26#039;t get the feeling he liked receiving flowers as much as I do. He even said, %26quot; I%26#039;ve never had anyone send me flowers before %26quot;. That was almost 7 years ago or so. I%26#039;ve never had the desire to send him flowers since. I was not offended by what sounded like a luke warm response to the gesture. There are so many ways to express affection, so I%26#039;ll just be the one in this relationship who receives the flowers.
Reply:not rele... you should be treating her to something. not the other way aorund. Its a sign that you should do somethign for her.
Reply:It%26#039;s romantic she%26#039;s trying to show you she cares
Reply:creepy omg next she%26#039;ll be opening doors for you and paying when you go out to eat. come on! It was only flowers it%26#039;s not like she sent a dead animal to you
Reply:Maybe if you sent her flowers she wouldn%26#039;t have had to send them to you.

She%26#039;s probably super clingy if she%26#039;s doing stuff like that, though.
Reply:I think the girl had sweet intentions. She probably just thought that she likes receiving flowers so maybe a guy would too. It was a little naive on her part but at least the thought was there! You shouldn%26#039;t let this be the decider of how you feel about her.

Entryway for my yard--flowers/rocks & cedar or pampas grass? Please help!?

I am wanting to make an entry way on each side of my drive way with large rocks for the back and then stack smaller rocks in the front and for the inside I%26#039;m not sure whether to put pampas grass plants or those decorative looking cedar type trees. and then outlining the front with different colored flowers. I will probably stick some pretty solar lights in it as well...Please give me your opinions on what you think as far as my plants go...or any different ideas you might have..I hope you all can understand the design I%26#039;m going for :)

Entryway for my yard--flowers/rocks %26amp; cedar or pampas grass? Please help!?
The pampas grass will get very tall, are you sure that you want to hide your rocks? While I like the look that you%26#039;re after, you might want to get the height from something like a rose-of-sharon that will give you height, color, and texture but still see the rocks. Good luck!
Reply:DON%26#039;T USE PAMPAS GRASS. It will cause you more headaches than you%26#039;ve ever dreamed. It has very dusty pollen, it develops a root system that will come back to haunt you, Its base will get thicker %26amp; thicker, even if you try to cut it back; and if you ever change your mind about it, you%26#039;ll have to pay a professional landscaper to get rid of it. We just had this problem last year at a house we bought. The previous owners had gone Pampas grass crazy, and it cost us a fortune just to get them thinned out. You WILL regret using Pampas grass!
Reply:Depending on how much you want blocked. Trees and grass with grow tall and block views. Is this what your looking for? Maybe put your pampas grass on the other side of the big rock since they will grow taller than the rock. That could be the final edge or backdrop since you won%26#039;t be able to see past it. You may want to spread mulch around the bottom of the rocks or wood chips so you don%26#039;t have weeds growing around the rocks. That would be hard to keep clean, or set the other two larger rocks on pond pebbles, or pea gravel, both which are small gravel pieces to finish off. I like mulch better cause it would look pretty with your flowers and make them stand out more.
Reply:Why not try planting alpines or trailing plants between the boulders? These will add colour and interest but will not totally cover the rocks from view; ferns contrast nicely with rock. I%26#039;d avoid the pampas grass though; it may look out of place.

I sent a girl flowers, but I haven't heard back from her?

I didn%26#039;t know this girl that well. I%26#039;m 24 and she%26#039;s 19. We hung out twice several months ago and she kind of acted like she liked me. I bumped into her at a party the other night. She asked me if I remembered her and I forgot who she was briefly which seemed to upset her. I remembered later. Anyway, I realized I liked her a lot that night. She is going through a tough time because her friend is in the hospital and I went ahead and ordered her some flowers (not roses) and had them delivered to her parents house where she stays yesterday afternoon. I put on the card %26quot;Smile, Kassi...from a guy who%26#039;s very sorry he forgot your name.%26quot; We have no way to contacting each other except through Myspace and I haven%26#039;t gotten a message or anything from her, so i%26#039;m just wondering do you all think that I maybe I creeped her out?

Help! My newly planted flowers keep croaking!?

The garden faces south getting full sun for most of the day.A few of the plants have survived transplant shock but others look about half dead. I planted a dwarf mulberry tree/bush,and some butterfly attractering flowers as well as a topiary. The leaves are falling off of the topiary despite my feeding it. I ised root stimulater and have fed the plants Peters plant food. I also incorporated some organic soil mixed into the existing snad/dirt. Any suggestions on what else I can do to help these plants? Maybe I%26#039;m deluding myself trying to create a country cottage type of look for my FL garden, lol?

Help! My newly planted flowers keep croaking!?
your trees and plants are in shock if they survive the heat they will be OK next year if you buy from Lowes or Home Depot they have a 1 year buy back policy keep the receipts
Reply:I personally would not feed newly transplanted shrubs or perennials unti they were solidly established. My suspicion also is that you have not been giving your new plants enough water. You have to give them a good soaking, not a light watering, especially after you gave them so much plant food.

Water them. That will solve most of your problem right then and there.
Reply:You might be over feeding them. Also some types of plants do better in partial sun or shade. Also sometimes the die but come back in a few weeks.
Reply:Two Words that will ease your stress, if all else fails %26quot;Silk Flowers%26quot;
Reply:If you live in Florida, a country cottage garden is probably not a realistic goal. It is probably just too hot most of the year and as you said, keeping enough water on it is a losing battle. Do some research at local garden centers to find plants that will give you the color you want but are heat tolerant as well as dought tolerant. I live in Texas and have very similar growing conditions.Good gardening is not about luck - it%26#039;s all in the plant choices that you make!
Reply:try planting frogs that way it will all work out. You can%26#039;t do the Northern gardens here I know I tried too. I have had luck with spirea but my coreopsis grows sideways instead of up. go for the tropical look it works out better. By the way I don%26#039;t like the silk flower thing but from what I%26#039;ve seen here you would fit right in:)

FIrst of all...thats SWEEET! I%26#039;d be pretty happy if a guy sent me flowers that way :)...But yeah you forgot her name? thats pretty bad. She might be a little mad. And do you know if she was drunk that night too..cause she might have been and not%26#039;ve known you fergot her name. which means she didnt know who sent the flowers.
Reply:If they were only sent a few hours ago, you should calm down. There%26#039;s a chance she hasn%26#039;t even gotten them yet, and if she has, she%26#039;s probably really distracted because her friend is in the hospital as you said.

Since you don%26#039;t know her very well, I would suggest waiting until the next time you see her then casually mention the flowers. Sending her a myspace message so soon is a little clingy and unecessary.

It was a sweet thing to do, just be patient.

How do I promote flowers on a miniature rose bush?

I have an indoor miniature rose bush. The leaves are growing well, but it has not had roses in quite some time. Is there a way to promote growth of the flowers? Thanks

How do I promote flowers on a miniature rose bush?
You have to prune roses to get flowers.

all roses grow leaves the same way.

Look at the ends of your plants and count the number of leaves on each branch.

You will see branches with either 3, 5 or 7 leaves.

If you keep the branches pruned at the 5 leaf point, you get more stems with 3 leaves and more flowers.

If you prune at the 7 leaf point you will get more branches with 5 leaves and then stems with 3 leaves and a flower.

.

In addition,,

Use a high phosphate, low-nitrogen fertilizer when feeding.
Reply:Give it a little Epsom salt, just a pinch, and trim it above a outward facing ,five leafed leaf. Cut it at a 45 degree angle right above that. It will promote new buds to form. Also they like full sun, and water it WELL after putting in the Epsom salt. Water once a week, with warm water ,not cold, they don%26#039;t like that, and try not to get the plant wet. If you do, do it early in the morning so it%26#039;ll have time to dry. Also. cut away any cross branches in the middle of the plant. If this is not an option, just cut the ones that are touching each other in the middle of it. That%26#039;s All Folks! Bye
Reply:Put it outside so that it experiences seasons, bring it in when too cold though.
Reply:u just trim off all blooms that it has now even if they aren%26#039;t open yet! it%26#039;ll repay ya with mulitple blooms in the next day or two! do this once or twice a month and by july or august ur mini rose bush will be full of blooms... so many in fact that u might not even see ne green on the whole bush... but it%26#039;s there, it%26#039;s just got so many blooms is all! i do it every year and it works like a charm. u don%26#039;t need to add ne kind of fertilizer for this to happen, it%26#039;s just how a mini rose bush grows and reacts to weekly to monthly trimmings. try it, and u%26#039;ll see what i%26#039;m talking about. oh yeah... if it doesn%26#039;t have ne blooms right now....just shave the top inch or so of foliage off and it%26#039;ll react the same way! *****oh yeah........mini rose bushes do best outside too! it might not ever bloom if u keep it inside!******

How can i make flowers for cakes?

K well I%26#039;m doing a cake for my grand-ma and grand-pa and i want to make flowers out of icing I know how to do it it%26#039;s just i need a recipe for a type of icing that it won%26#039;t make it fall apart. If I use store bought it just turns to goo. Please help!

How can i make flowers for cakes?
You need frosting, not icing - cream 2 cups of shortening in a mixer, then add 1/2 tspn of salt, then sift in 4 cups of powdered sugar and 2 tbspns of milk. Beat until fluffy. Add more sugar as needed to make a semi-stiff frosting. This is a good regular frosting. For flowers, purchase a star tip and pipe the frosting through the tip.
Reply:I like James%26#039;s recipe but I would use 1/2 shortening %26amp; 1/2 butter. This will be still firm but plyable (sp) but taste better. You can also add flavoring if you wish.

If you know the pastry chef%26#039;s method for piping flowers they produce very nice... ah flowers.

It%26#039;s a memorial to someone who died in car accident on that spot.

Reply:It marks the place where someone died. Unfortunately, it also distracts drivers, which may lead to another accident.

When my brother was killed on PCH 10 years ago, the entire community came out to the spot where he was killed and laid flowers, pictures, stuffed animals and candles as a way to morn his loss.

Do all girls like flowers?

I%26#039;m going to anonymously give this girl flowers. If she reacts well to them I will tell her it was me and ask her out. Is this a good idea?

Do all girls like flowers?
Yes girls love flowers. Don%26#039;t give them anonymously. That will show that you can%26#039;t step up and don%26#039;t have courage to express your feelings to her. Girls LOVE it when a guy goes out of his way to let her know how he feels and makes that move first.

If you really care about her, then do it in person. If she doesn%26#039;t respond in a positive way, no harm done, nothing lost. In fact, it%26#039;ll be better for you that you%26#039;ll know straight up and always wonder.

Be strong and don%26#039;t worry about what anyone thinks. If she%26#039;s the right girl for you, then awesome. If she%26#039;s not, you%26#039;ve done a beautiful gesture and believe me she%26#039;ll always be thinking about you and what you did...no matter what the outcome ;-)

Go for it!!

All the best...

i personally don%26#039;t like them. i hate when girls get red roses and say stuff like, %26quot;omg he%26#039;s SOOO romantic!%26quot; NO he%26#039;s doing what EVERY OTHER guy does.

what would be really really really cute is if you looked up flower meanings online and found one that pertains to her. there are flowers that mean, %26quot;dance with me%26quot; or %26quot;you have great eyes%26quot; and leave a note w/ them that says what the flower type means.

good luck!
Reply:All girls like flowers. The ones who say they don%26#039;t (me, in previous relationships) know their guy wouldn%26#039;t get them anyway and they are just trying to save face in front of their friends and fam.

Just don%26#039;t do roses or anything extravagant. Simple is best.
Reply:Yah, pretty much all girls love flowers whether or not they will admit it.

Not sure about your plan, though. I mean, it sounds great in theory, but what if someone else takes credit for it? What if she doesn%26#039;t believe you?

It should work, but if it backfires, it will backfire hard. Good luck ;D
Reply:hey thats very sweet. You need to give flowers coz u want to...not with doubts that whether she will like it or not. Its the thought that matters. And please dont be anonymous. Reply:Yes and no. Its good becuz its a flattering gester but what if she is shallow and wen she finds out it was u she like just.... idn girls are creative but u only have time and money to lose and yeah that may be worth it. Just don%26#039;t fall to fast before she falls at all.

What are some good flowers to purchase for my spring patio?

i am not a good gardener. i need some pretty flowers that would do well in the city with moderate sunlight. i hope they would last all summer. thanks for your help.

What are some good flowers to purchase for my spring patio?
Impatients are really cool and come in a variety of beautiful colors. I found a plant last year called %26quot;blue hawaii%26quot; that was the mot georgous color of blue. I was a novice until last year and thoroughly enjoyed my little garden of flowers and got plenty of compliments. This year I want to plant sunflowers against this wooden fence that borders my place.
Reply:Petunias are a nice flower to have. If you pinch off the dead blooms they will usually bloom all summer. Sultanas will also bloom all summer long, but they can%26#039;t have direct sunlight all day long.
Reply:when you visit the garden centre, you will see that all plants come with a guide that will tell you what light the plant needs. then you can make an informed decision. Petunias are always a good choice.

You should go to a confectioner and get a cookie or chocolate or cupcakes with her name on it, and send it with flowers. That would be so sweet.

Request money instead of flowers for a funeral - need polite and proper wording?

I have read some posts on here where individuals believe it is rude to request money for a funeral. I did not learn of the practice of giving the gift of money until my grandmother had passed away, and I cannot tell you how much the funds assisted with paying for everything involved to properly lay her to rest; as she did not have insurance.

My question is, how do I politiely and properly request individuals give money? I have a friend who just lost her son on Christmas Day. He was sick for many years (and un-insurable), they do not have much money and are talking about taking out a home equity loan to try and pay for a proper funeral. They do have two other children to think of as well and I%26#039;d like to do whatever I can to ensure those who wish to pay their respects do so with a donation to the family instead of flowers. PLEASE HELP!

Request money instead of flowers for a funeral - need polite and proper wording?
Funerals and weddings are private family affairs. No family should feel obliged to host a grand occasion that they cannot afford. There are ways to cut costs for the funeral and burial (for example, cremation is much less expensive) which they should discuss with their pastor and with the funeral director.
Reply:I agree with deble. Say %26quot;...in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to:%26quot; If you say, %26quot;memorials%26quot; it sounds better than %26quot;monetary gifts%26quot; and people will still know what you%26#039;re talking about.
Reply:Just say something like...in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: (set up a bank account somewhere to help pay the final costs...I see this in the paper in my area all the time...people will know what to do when they read that.)
Reply:Has the obit been published in the local paper yet? If not it could be mentioned in there that %26quot;it is suggested that monetary gifts be sent in lieu of flowers to the family%26quot; or some such. I%26#039;ve seen it done before. I don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s greedy, I%26#039;m sure when people find out the circumstances of the death and the family they will be happy to do what is best.
Reply:In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to xxxx, or xxxx.

Some people will feel uncomfortable giving money directly to the family, so have an alternative - perhaps a charity for what he had. A trust has to be set up for living people - so perhaps a trust for the other two children could be the alternative.

A local bank will usually be willing to set up a special account to receive money for funeral expenses. This should not be put in the obit. If there is going to be an article in the paper about him - that would be an appropriate place. You can also communicate their desires via phone if you speak to anyone directly.
Reply:Lately I have seen a lot more people asking for their lasting memories to be considered donated to the (person who passed) fund sent up at a bank.

This may seem tacky to those who did not know the deceased and their situation. Those who were close will understand.

I know I did not word the first part correctly, but I hope it helps.

I am also sorry for you and your friends loss- you are in my heart.
Reply:I really don%26#039;t think there is an appropriate way to ask for money. If they have family members then they should ask THEM. If you are handling it then you ask them. They should stick together. They are the ones who should chip in ... not friends and outside people. That%26#039;s just not appropriate to me.
Reply:Just tell the individuals about the situation, and I%26#039;m sure they would be more than happy to give money instead of flowers. I don%26#039;t think that it would be that hard to do so. Just tell them exactly what you said on here, and if they have any heart at all, they will understand.
Reply:They may %26quot;need it%26quot; but handing an envelope to with money to anyone can create an uncomfortable situation for both the giver and receiver.

I agree that wording such as %26quot;In lieu of flowers a monetary gift can be sent to XXX.%26quot; Not everyone will follow it, but it%26#039;s a possibility.

While I realize that they may be in a financial hardship you cannot hold out an expectation that everyone will want or be willing to donate - but those that do will most likely want to do it discretely and away from the prying eye of others at the funeral.
Reply:In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to xxx.

I would hope that most people who attend the funeral would know about the family%26#039;s hardship with the cost of burial. Sometimes %26quot;word of mouth%26quot;, will help spread the word.

Also, if their is a 211 info line in your state, there are charitable organization that help with funeral expenses.

Also, you could try a bereavement envelope.

Good luck with helping them

Sorry for your loss
Reply:look i just buried my brother last month the casket alone was almost 8,000.00 he was tall and wide so i had to get a specially made casket. the cost to open the grave was 1400.00 . the church was 300.00 . the pallbearers were 50.00 a piece blah blah blah the entire funeral cost over 12,000.00 he also had no insurance, no wife no kids. if you need the money than ask the funeral director to post it in the newspaper, many times the mourners call the funeral parlor to ask about which florist to use.... say money.... pass the word to one good friend and tell them to spread the word. there is no time for embarassament or shame. it%26#039;s not a matter of doing above your means as some snob on here suggested .... everything costs money and to these vendors it is just a business, supply and demand. my sympathies to the mother who lost her child and applause to you for trying to help her. no matter how long the sickness was it is never easy to let them go.
Reply:I think this is not an unreasonable thing, but the etiquette issue comes into play if you approach it as an expectation that anyone will do anything (send flowers, donate, etc.) Of course, most WILL, but etiquette only requires personal expressions of sympathy. The flowers and other things are officially %26quot;unexpected%26quot; and understood to be given freely as an outpouring of comfort and respect for the deceased and the family. That said, the way to get out the word is to do it informally (that is, verbally and not in writing), and perhaps to let the people you call know that you will provide a basket at the back of the parlor, with cards, pen, and envelopes for those who wish to LEAVE AN EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY AND SUPPORT (that is, help with funeral expenses.)

If YOU do it FOR the family, and approach it as an informal thing by putting the bug in everyone%26#039;s ear verbally beforehand, providing a convenient means, etc., then the family isn%26#039;t seen as begging, or looking to benefit from the death (some would suggest that).

Often I have seen a trust account set up for things like this, or to cover the cost of a suit to bury someone in one, who doesn%26#039;t have one. A trust account at a bank is a way to make sure the money doesn%26#039;t end up accidentally in someone%26#039;s pocket and used for something other than the intended purpose (sorry to make these kinds of statements, but it happens). Setting up a trust account for the funeral expenses is not hard to do, but it does require an attorney to sign off the paperwork. If you or someone else close to the family has an attorney who can do this, then you can just put the trust thing in the newspaper obit, or even on little cards at the visitation, again, either at the back of the parlor, or even by the guest book.

Hope this helps. I think in a situation like you%26#039;ve described, this is NOT inappropriate, and can be handled in a low-key, thoughtful way. In fact, where I come from, everyone who can afford to do so includes a $10 or a $20 in their sympathy card. We assume there are expenses the family will need help with, and that a death either results in not only expenses, but a loss of income or labor. I come from a low-income, rural area, where everyone who can offer a hand does so, when needed, and most of the time everyone knows the situation anyway.

Hope that helps.

What type of annual flowers bloom all summer long?

I want flowers that do well in direct sun.

What type of annual flowers bloom all summer long?
Then you%26#039;ll love zennia%26#039;s! They can withstand all different soils, heats, moistures (they can really handle drought)and they LOVE direct sun. They are bright, have many different colors to choose from, come in different heights depending on your needs, make excellent cut flowers that will last up to 2 weeks in a vase, bloom from late spring until early fall and can be grown from seed right up until it gets really hot. Now I ask you, what more could you want from a flower?! LOL
Reply:i have some my mom-in-law just gave me. begonias, i think. bc i kill everthing. they have to be in direct sun and you don%26#039;t have to water them much. ask at home depot..they come in pink, red and white and the middles are yellow (just in case i got the name wrong).
Reply:Vincas and verbena like the hot sun.
Reply:Marigolds and Petunias.

Reply:In direct sunlight, the flowers that will do well are lantana, geraniums, petunias, marigolds, zinnias (especially the %26quot;profusion%26quot; variety), gerbera daisy, salvia, million bells, nasturtium, ageratum, amaranth, celosia, cosmos, dahlias (you can dig dahlias up and replant them the next year, if you like), heliotrope, portulaca, and verbena. Some of these will do better in certain areas of the country, check with your local garden center, they can (and should if they want to stay in business) help answer any questions you may have.
Reply:Most annuals bloom all summer long. But Impatiens, petunias, and marigolds seem to do it abundantly. It%26#039;s perennials that bloom and die off until next year, such as Tulips, Hyacinths and Daffodils.

marigolds love full sun and so do sedum
Reply:Impatiens or %26quot;Buzy Lizzie%26quot; as they are commonly called are great.Masses of flowers all summer and plants will fill out really well. You will need to keep well watered and provide a feed at least once. They are really easy to grow.

Why do we drop flowers onto a casket at the end of a funeral?

I have never known the real reason for the dropping of the flowers onto a casket before it goes under the ground. As well as the reason some people pour alcohol out in rememberance of a deceased friend or family member.

Why do we drop flowers onto a casket at the end of a funeral?
In funeral service history prior to today%26#039;s modern embalming the reason for flowers being present at a wake and funeral service was for oder control, the flowers were not the same flowers we use today they were specific flowers selected for their aroma / perfume. This has been carried on to today%26#039;s modern time services flowers are now used as a recognition and the show of support to the grieving family from friends and relatives. Now for your specific question flowers/ boutiners are placed on the casket by the pall bearers as a ceremony or final tribute as they pass by the casket. This would also depend on the funeral directer directing the service whether he is caring and wants to do everything he can to help make this one time life changing event memorable. Others family members place a single flower on the casket because they love them and it is the last thing that can be done at the cemetery and it also ads to the ceremony. Kind of nice huh.

Reply:thats a gift from the people they love.
Reply:It%26#039;s all a big scheme the flower industry has to boost sales. It all started back in 1932 when Otis Q. McMurray, whose flower shop was on the verge of closing in post-depression Rhode Island, came up with a great idea. It was a stupendous, miraculous, ingenious idea! With all of the people dying from poor nutrition, Otis could make money by spreading the rumor that placing flowers on the grave of their recently departed family and friends would bring them good luck in the form of wealth and occupations. And wouldn%26#039;t you know it, Otis%26#039;s idea worked! It soon spread to all of the country and soon everyone was placing flowers at the final resting places of their loved ones. And to this day funeral flowers have continued to be a multi-million dollar business.

What is the point of fake flowers?

I mean they are pretty-ish. but they get dusty! I don%26#039;t have time to dust the nice things in my house much less stupid fake flowers. and lets face it if i am going to dust i might as well just water.

fake flowers.... rediculous waste of money or easy way for people who are less nurturing than a desert to keep plants?

Then again, they%26#039;re just decoration. Some people like some kinds of decoration, other people don%26#039;t. Some people like paintings and sculptures, others like flowers and plants. It%26#039;s all a matter of personal preference.
Reply:I love them when they are arranged professionally. He does all the arrangement for photo shots for FTD Florist. He is highly regarded in the Boston area. He also does live arrangements for the Museum of Fine Arts. Also these arrangements add dimension and have a nice textural look. . I have heard that professional Interior Decorators think they are a no no, but the newer silks can fool a lot of people. Plus they are finding newer ways to make them look realistic. Bert Ford is the designer in Salem, NH
Reply:hi, fake flowers, mine are outside, they

Reply:True, but if you only bring them out when there is a need, you won%26#039;t have this problem.
Reply:they are pretty you lazy ***!!
Reply:To elicit fake feelings. They are a sure sign of interior desecration.

P.S. If ANYBODY puts fake flowers on MY grave, I%26#039;ll come back to haunt you.
Reply:I KILL PLANTS WITH TLC Fake works for me. No dirt required, no fertilizer,no water, no beer, they hang well in the closet....in the basement....in the garage(where it freezes). Dusting, whats that? If I wait long enough, they will get a coat of dust on them on their own.
Reply:So that they don%26#039;t die..

You can put them on someones grave

and they will stay there..
Reply:I use fake plants in my house because all the one%26#039;s I like are poisounous to my birds. The fake one%26#039;s afford me the ability to have the flowers I like without worrying that one of my birds are going to get into it and get sick/die. As for dusting them, I just hit them with some canned air and it pretty much cleans them up nicely.
Reply:they last longer

cleaning it takes only a min or two duh!

yea desert plants are great
Reply:to fool honeybees and make them mad. Serves them right, the stinging freaks!
Reply:Well we know you can%26#039;t always keep fresh ones fresh and they lose their color and start sagging. You have to keep buying them. So fake ones can take the place . They look nice and they stay the same color and shape! :)
Reply:It%26#039;s scary. This lady down the street has the prettiest flowers, but they are all fake!

They are definitely for the low-maintenance people, because these people are never around to water their flowers, so, had they chose to plant real ones, they would die. Not to mention, some people don%26#039;t like the work!

Fake flowers = looks but not labor.
Reply:nah, it%26#039;s just for people who want flowers but don%26#039;t feel like watering them / getting new ones all the time.
Reply:Flowers only bloom at certain times and then die. Fake flowers are there all year long.
Reply:If your always buzy then you dont have to water them or worry about them making a mess its just for decoration. You mideaswell not just have any flowers.
Reply:they don%26#039;t die.
Reply:people use them because you dont need to water them ever and you never need to replace them. real flowers dont last that long anyways

some flowers start smelling extremely bad, and they could have little bugs in them

ick

and plus, little kids like to pick at flowers and pull the petals off. and that could make a little mess

i prefer real flowers but just on special occasions
Reply:i hate fake flowers. and they look fake, so i don%26#039;t think there%26#039;s any point in getting them. and i agree, if you have time to dust, you might as well water real ones, they look better.

2. you don%26#039;t have to water them in case you don%26#039;t have time to water real plants

3. for people who are allergic to real flowers

4. also appropriate for %26quot;I%26#039;ll love you till the last one dies%26quot;
Reply:M O N E Y
Reply:I don%26#039;t like them at all, they%26#039;re tacky. Real flowers and plants are better in every way.
Reply:Its for decorationg for people who dont want to tend to real plants
Reply:I agree with the annoying thing about having to dust them. but i can see where people would see a point in getting them. You dont have to water them, they won%26#039;t wither and start to look like crap. and its an easy way to have pretty decorations without having to constantly change it because the flowers die.
